Name your New Mexico LLC

Required wording
A New Mexico LLC name must contain the words limited liability company, limited company, or an abbreviation such as L.L.C., LLC, L.C. or LC. Limited may be shortened to Ltd. and Company to Co.
- Acceptable: Sandia Fabrication LLC, Sandia Fabrication, L.L.C.
- Not acceptable: wording implying the LLC is a bank, trust company or government agency without the required authorization
- The name must be distinguishable on the record from other business names already registered with the Secretary of State
Checking availability and reserving a name
Search the Secretary of State's business entity database through SOS Enterprise before you file. Minor differences in punctuation, spacing, or a generic designator such as LLC are usually not enough to distinguish two names from each other.
If you are not ready to file the Articles of Organization but want to hold a name, New Mexico allows a name reservation filed with the Secretary of State for a set period. Confirm the current reservation fee and length on SOS Enterprise before submitting, since fee schedules are updated from time to time.
Operating under a name different from the one in your Articles of Organization requires a separate trade name or assumed name registration; it is not automatic just because you filed the LLC.
