Set up your Pennsylvania registered office
Pennsylvania does not require you to name an individual registered agent the way most states do. Instead, every LLC must maintain a registered office, an actual street address in the Commonwealth.
What counts as a registered office
The registered office must be an actual street address or rural route box number within Pennsylvania. A post office box alone does not satisfy the requirement. This is where legal papers and official notices can be delivered.
Using a Commercial Registered Office Provider
Instead of listing a specific street address, an LLC can name a Commercial Registered Office Provider, or CROP, a business registered with the Department of State to provide this service. Listing a CROP means your Certificate of Organization states the CROP's name and county rather than a street address, which keeps a home address off the public record.
Using a CROP is optional, not mandatory. You can list your own Pennsylvania business address if you have one and are comfortable with it being public.
