Name your Alaska LLC
The Division of Corporations will reject your Articles of Organization if the name is not distinguishable from a name already on its record, so search the corporate database before you file anything or print business cards.
Required wording
An Alaska LLC name must contain the words Limited Liability Company or the abbreviation LLC or L.L.C. Limited may be shortened to Ltd. and Company to Co.
- Acceptable: Denali Trail Outfitters LLC, Denali Trail Outfitters L.L.C.
- The name may not imply that the LLC is organized for a purpose other than what is stated in its Articles
- Words implying a connection to a bank, insurance company, or government agency need approval before use
Checking availability and reserving a name
Search the Corporations Section's business name database before you file. Alaska applies a distinguishable-on-the-record standard, so punctuation, spacing, and the required LLC designator alone are not enough to separate your name from an existing entity's.
If you are not ready to file the Articles of Organization yet, you can reserve or register a name with the Corporations Section for a fee, which gives you exclusive rights to that exact name in the corporations database while you finish preparing your filing.
Reserving a name is optional. If you are ready to file the Articles of Organization right away, you can simply file directly and skip the separate reservation step.
