Appoint your Indiana registered agent
Indiana law requires every LLC to continuously maintain a registered agent and a registered office in the state, so official notices and lawsuits have somewhere reliable to land.
Who can act as agent
The agent is either an individual resident of Indiana or an entity authorized to do business in Indiana. Either way there must be a physical Indiana street address, not a PO box, and the LLC itself cannot serve as its own registered agent.
Keeping the appointment current
If the agent resigns, moves, or stops being available, the LLC has to update the appointment with the Secretary of State without much delay. Indiana Code sets out separate procedures for a commercial registered agent and a noncommercial one, and both can be filed through INBiz.
Because the registered agent's address is public and searchable, many owners who work from home choose a commercial registered agent instead.
