Name your Nevada LLC
Nevada's Secretary of State checks every new name against its own register before accepting an Articles of Organization. A clash means a rejected filing and a delay, so search first.
Required wording
A Nevada LLC name must contain Limited-Liability Company, Limited Liability Company, or an abbreviation such as LLC, L.L.C., LC or L.C. Limited may be shortened to Ltd. and Company to Co.
- Acceptable: Silver State Ventures LLC, Silver State Ventures Limited Liability Company
- Not acceptable: wording implying a bank, trust or government agency without the relevant approval
- Words like bank, trust and insurance need consent from the applicable Nevada regulator
The distinguishable standard
Nevada requires a name to be distinguishable on the record from existing entity names, not merely different by punctuation or a designator. Search the free business entity search on the Secretary of State's website before you file.
If you are not ready to file yet, a name can be reserved for 90 days for a fee, held through SilverFlume or by paper filing.
A name that clears the Secretary of State's register is not automatically free of trademark conflicts. Check the USPTO database too if you plan to build a brand around it.
