Registered agent for a corporation
Every state requires a corporation to keep a registered agent with a physical street address in that state.
What the agent handles
- Service of process in lawsuits
- Annual report and franchise tax notices
- State tax correspondence
Practical points
A PO box is not acceptable. The address is public record. If you incorporate in one state and operate in another, you will need an agent in each.
