Name your Georgia LLC
Georgia's Corporations Division rejects Articles of Organization for name conflicts routinely. Checking availability before you file saves a resubmission.
Required wording
A Georgia LLC name must contain Limited Liability Company, Limited Company, or an abbreviation such as LLC, L.L.C., LC or L.C. Limited may be abbreviated Ltd. and Company may be abbreviated Co.
- Acceptable: Peachtree Logistics LLC, Peachtree Logistics Limited Company
- Not acceptable: wording suggesting a corporation, bank, or government body without approval
- Certain regulated words need consent from the relevant Georgia licensing board
Checking availability
Search the Corporations Division's business search before filing. Georgia will refuse a name that is not distinguishable from a name already on file, so small changes like punctuation or a designator swap are not reliably enough to clear a conflict.
If you are not ready to file yet, Georgia allows a name reservation for a fee, held for a set period before it expires.
A name accepted by the Corporations Division is not automatically clear of trademark claims. A separate USPTO search is worthwhile before you commit to branding.
