Wyoming lesson 2 of 6

Name your Wyoming LLC

Wyoming's naming rules are straightforward, and the Secretary of State's search is free and fast.

Required wording

The name must contain Limited Liability Company, or the abbreviation LLC or L.L.C. Wyoming also accepts Limited Company and its abbreviations. Anything that suggests a corporation, a bank or a government agency will be refused.

Availability and reservation

Search the WyoBiz business register before filing. The name must be distinguishable on the record from existing Wyoming entities and reserved names. If you need to hold a name while you prepare documents, a reservation is available from the Business Division; check the current fee on the official fee schedule, which the Secretary of State revises periodically.

State name clearance is not trademark clearance. If you plan to build a brand, run a USPTO search as well.

Free Name Availability Check

🇺🇸 Check United States company name availability

Search the official United States state registry before you file. Opens the government portal in a new tab.

Tip: also confirm the .com domain and matching social handles are free before you commit.

Key takeaways

  • Use LLC, L.L.C. or the words in full at the end of the name.
  • The name must be distinguishable on the Wyoming register.
  • Check the official fee schedule for current reservation pricing.
